“All men are fatalist as they look back on things.”

Reading Taylor’s interview, although he didn’t always go to church, he was still a firm believer in faith. He described fatalism as something that will happen know matter what. Even though Richard wrote, Metaphysics, a book about metaphysical issues, he did not actually believe in everything in the book. After reading the interview I learned that the quote, “All men are fatalist as they look back on things.” Really does apply to him. At the end of the interview he told the interview he was diagnosed with incurable cancer, but he is not afraid to die. I don’t really agree with the quote, because I don’t think everyone believes in faith. I know in physiology we talked about different reasons people are not afraid to die, and two of the reasons are faith and religion. Many people with strong faith do not fear death. This reminds me of my grandfather. Three years ago he was diagnosed with lung cancer, and when the doctor diagnosed him he acted like he did not care. Everyone in the family was worried and scared he would die. After he was diagnosed everyone started to watch his every move. When he got tired of seeing everyone being emotional he said, “Stop all this emotional stuff. If it’s my time to go, then it’s my time to go. This means god is ready for me, and if this is what he wants then it’s going to happen. You just have to believe that god has a plan for everyone.” My grandfather was always big on having faith, and he believed faith is what kept him going all those years before he was diagnosed.
