After reading the article, “Studies on Multitasking Highlight Value of Self-Control”, I have learned the real effects of multitasking. I always thought that multitasking was a good task to have, but according to the article it is one of the worst. One of the most common things for teens to use as a multitasking agent is electronics. According to the article, “13- to 18-year-olds use more than six types of media simultaneously during out-of-school time.” I know for me it is true. Most people multitask because they think it saves time, when in reality it makes a task longer to complete. Another reason multitasking is a bad idea is because one task is always completed over the other. This is because while multitasking you have to choose which task to focus on the most. People who multitask are more easily distracted, and have worse memory than someone who does not. For example, someone doing homework who stops to read a text message will most likely forget the last thing they read, because they are more focused on what the text says. The article also talked about an experiment they did using marshmallows and four year olds. Stanford University tested the kids’ self-control by asking them to wait fifteen minutes to eat a marshmallow. Less than twenty-five percent of the kids were able to wait the fifteen minutes to eat the marshmallow. According to the results, children who have self-control will have more success in the future.  Before reading the article I thought multitasking was a good idea, but after reading the article I no longer feel the same. After reading the article I think multitasking is a horrible idea. Unless someone is able to complete both tasks the way they are supposed to be, then I don’t think they should multitask.  I don’t think anyone should be taught to multitask, but how to use their time wisely.

After reading the article, “Studies on Multitasking Highlight Value of Self-Control”, I realized how much I actually multitasking and how it affects my work. Even during the moment of writing this paper I am multitasking, and not in a good way. I have the television on and I am texting. My phone is a big distraction when it comes to doing work. Most times while I am doing homework or studying I end up stopping abrubtly to answer a text. It doesn’t even have to be imnportant and ill focus more on my phone than  I will on my work. After reading the article I realized that I don’t have much self-control, and it shows in my work.
